Although most noted for his Chinese ink mastery, Chen Wen Hsi was also highly adept in the Western medium. One of Singapore’s most acclaimed artists and a pioneer of the Nanyang art movement, his works are highly sought after by collectors and traders.
- Born in Guangdong, China in 1906.
- Studied art at Shanghai College of Art and Sin Hwa Academy of Fine Art, Shanghai.
- Settled in Singapore in 1948 and taught at the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts and Singapore Chinese High School.
- Winner of the Public Service Star in 1964, Gold Medal from National Museum History in 1980 and the Asean Cultural and Communication Award in 1987.
